What HHSC Long-term Care Regulation (LTCR) does
The Texas Health and Human Services Commission licenses and certifies long-term care facilities, including assisted living facilities and nursing homes, and certifies nursing homes that want to take part in Medicaid or Medicare. Its surveyors make unannounced visits to check that facilities meet state and federal standards, and they investigate complaints. HHSC can impose penalties or revoke licenses.
